Our mission: is to help re-educate and re-condition the broken spirit, mind, and bodies of the underserved and forgotten African aka Black People – in America. With knowledge of self and a natural yearning for universal TRUTH – understanding as our foundation; we will usher in a new paradigm of thought for the African in America.

Our Core Initiatives
Black Business Initiative
The Literal Substance Black Business Initiative Series is a great way for small to moderate sized companies and business owners to come together and share coffee and conversations with other black-business owners. Attendees will also get to hear the challenges and most importantly the success from local and national Leading Black Business owners. The Literal Substance Black Business Breakfast Series is quarterly. Registration is free for all Literal Substance registered members. You must RSVP to attend. Urban Leadership Awards
In conjunction with various partners and community donors. The Urban Leadership Awards scholarships have been awarded for 20 years to students in the Houston Metropolitan area. The Urban Leadership Award is granted to graduating high school seniors. Applicants that are apart of the Greater Houston Community will be awarded based on competitive essays, academic performances, and personal interviews. Do you have what it takes?
Community Leadership Forum
The Literal Substance Black Leadership Forum was developed to provide an arena for Black businesses, professionals, and advocacy organizations to come together to discuss key issues in the community and provide networking opportunities for participants. Our goal is to advocate for collaboration between black professional organizations to address issues that impact the Houston community, such as economic empowerment strategies, professional career trends, and civic engagement in the community.
